More Saturday

Maddox and Chava loved Grandma and Papa's big chair - which fit both of them comfortably. We had a great time flying kites near Children's Beach in Chatham. Maddox was mesmerized.

Monday/Tuesday

We saw seals and lots of fish guts at the Chatham Fish Pier.

Al bought the world's most ridiculously large shade tent for the beach.

Ice Cream!

One of the goals that we took very seriously while on vacation was to do some comparisons of the different ice cream places on the Cape. Schoolhouse was okay - but they had by far the nicest eating area, with a lovely garden complete with a miniature adirondack chair just right for Maddox.

Maddox enjoys a cream cheese and jelly sandwich on the beach.

More beach

We spent a great morning with Susan and family at their beach. Chava fell asleep and Al tried to pretend that he was nursing her under the towel.

Last night

No age limit at the trampolines... so we ALL got to try them out (except Chava, maybe next year). Then we had a nice dinner outside at Clancy's. Maddox ate the entire bread basket.

I can't remember which night this was

Maddox has been really in to wearing Al's shoes. Maybe it's because we brought the Wallace & Gromit video with us on vacation and watched "The Wrong Trousers" approximately 9,458 times. So Maddox calls Al's shoes "the wrong trousers" and marches around, demanding that we whistle the W&G theme music.

Saturday

We got to overlap with Roz and Lou for the weekend and the kids enjoyed some Grandma and Papa time.

Vacation!

This will give you an idea of just how packed our car was when we left on Friday night.

I tried to take Sunday pictures but I got too hot

We started our day with a trip to Russo's (the greengrocer, or "apple store," as Maddox likes to call it). Chava fell asleep on the way there so Maddox and Al shopped solo. Maddox acquired Al's glasses and a sticker beard during the trip.

Our kids are cat people

Maddox discusses ice cream options with Ernie.

Chava practices being gentle (not her best skill, but Nonna was a good teacher).

Ernie kicks back and enjoys Nonna's Laurie Berkner video with Maddox.

Warm up

Grammy, Maddox, Chava and I spent a lovely hour or so on the side lawn in the pool... watching the traffic go by.

Chava is a cute miserable

One thing about Hand, Foot & Mouth - it's very contagious. Hence my opportunity to stay home with Chava today and have a little photo shoot. I was trying not to use a flash so they're a little blurry, but I like to think of them as artistic.

Misery doesn't love heat and humidity

Maddox developed Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease on Friday. Sounds like something only farm animals should get, right? He spent the weekend wailing and moaning, alternating only with demands for any kind of acidic food one could think of (which would aggrevate the sores in his mouth, but you try explaining that to a 2 year old). He seems to be on the mend, but now I'm wondering what kind of monster child we've created by capitulating to (most of) his demands over the weekend while he felt so crummy.

This is his newest trick when it's time to take medicine:

July 4th

We celebrated by riding the subway down to South Station to watch the big trains coming and going. A very nice conductor gave Maddox his own punched ticket! Chava was a very cheeful buddha in the backseat.

Maine

We went to a little island in mid-Maine from Saturday - Sunday. Maddox was hard to get out of the garage once he discovered the little digger. Chava decided that 2:30 a.m. was a good time to get up for the day (and Al got up with her) so they were already down for a nap by the time the rest of the house got up.
